Marni
Marni was founded in 1994. The brand began its fashion line with a focus on fur design, a contribution from Consuelo Castiglioni, who came from her husband’s family fur business background. At the time, fur was often considered outdated, but Castiglioni viewed it as a regular textile material that could be used to create modern, wearable clothing. This clothing line was later named Marni, after her sister.
Consuelo and Gianni Castiglioni introduced Marni’s first collection in 1994, featuring eclectic and iconic womenswear and accessories. In the early 2000s, Marni experienced a period of significant growth, expanding its product range and gaining a loyal following. Marni’s collections began to be showcased at prestigious fashion events such as Milan Fashion Week, further solidifying its reputation as a brand that goes beyond traditional fashion boundaries.
Marni’s designs are often described as unique, feminine, and playful. Early design characteristics included distinctive printed motifs and the use of vintage fabrics and materials; while these elements remain part of the brand’s identity, they are now presented in a more refined way. Marni is also known for its mastery in combining textures, using color blocking, and working with palettes focused on shades of gray, beige, and blue, accented with pops of bright color.
