Roger Vivier
Roger Vivier was a French shoe designer born in Paris in 1907 who founded his eponymous brand in 1937. He quickly established himself as a pioneer in footwear design, creating shoes for prestigious fashion houses such as Christian Dior and Elsa Schiaparelli.
One of Vivier’s most iconic creations is the stiletto heel, introduced in 1953. The stiletto became an instant success and a staple in women’s fashion, worn by celebrities such as Elizabeth Taylor and Brigitte Bardot.
During the 1960s and 1970s, Vivier continued to innovate and expand his brand. He introduced the pilgrim pumps—low-heeled shoes with square toes—and collaborated with Yves Saint Laurent on the Mondrian collection, featuring brightly colored shoes inspired by the artwork of Piet Mondrian.
Today, Roger Vivier is renowned for its high-quality craftsmanship and iconic designs such as the Belle Vivier pumps, distinguished by their rectangular buckle and first introduced in 1965. The brand’s creations have been worn by fashion icons including Catherine Deneuve, Marlene Dietrich, and Queen Elizabeth II.
