Missoni
Missoni is an Italian fashion house renowned for its distinctive knitwear designs. Founded in 1953 by Ottavio Tai Missoni and Rosita Missoni, the brand is celebrated for its vibrant color palettes, iconic zigzag patterns, and innovative knitting techniques.
Initially, Missoni focused on knitwear, with Ottavio Missoni developing unique knitting methods and experimenting with patterns and colors. Their first collection was launched in 1958 and quickly gained attention for its captivating designs. The use of space-dyeing—a technique in which yarns are dyed in different colors before knitting—became one of Missoni’s signature elements.
Missoni has continued to innovate and push boundaries in knitwear design, introducing new patterns, experimenting with various fabrics, and collaborating with other fashion houses and designers. In the late 1990s, the Missoni family diversified the business by launching fragrance lines for men and women. The brand also expanded into the hospitality industry, opening hotels and resorts that showcase Missoni’s distinctive style and aesthetic. The Missoni family remains actively involved in the company, with Angela Missoni, Rosita Missoni’s daughter, leading the brand’s creative direction as Creative Director.
